Y is for yummy

Y is for Yummy! Many memories get made around food. Food - the tastes, the smells, and the textures, maybe even the colors, can evoke many recollections from seemingly the depths of your brain. According to research, this is the hippocampus which is a part of the brain critical for memory and emotion. Olfactory memories have a strong connection to both the hippocampus and the amygdala - both serving important parts in making and maintaining memories!! While trying to find out more about this, I read one wonderful essay about food and memories here.

And this is definitely true, so many of my earliest memories revolve around food - of mom making snacks and sweets for Diwali while I helped her (just by giving her company!), of eagerly walking to the dairy in our colony to buy some khoa(milk thickened to even lesser moisture than ricotta, which is used in preparing many Indian sweets) and being sorely tempted by the smell of fresh, warm khoa to just eat one bit as I walked back home with it - but the thought that it would mean a few jamuns less prevented me from eating the khoa itself (though not always), of my packed school lunches, and so many more..
And now, with our trips to India, and cooking at home, we are building, hopefully a wonderful treasure-chest of memories for the kids..Here is a collage of foods to tempt your senses, perhaps to trigger memories, and to just enjoy!!

Q to the reader:  What food you ate recently triggered a memory from childhood or years ago?

Many of my posts for this challenge around this theme of favorite childhood memories to rebuild with my kids revolve around food (and more specifically, a huge sweet tooth..!!!) thus proving this point again - my food posts are below.
