Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt. Protests erupted Tuesday night in Charlotte, North Carolina, after police shot and killed a man in an apartment complex parking lot. And the Syrian government and its Russian allies were fully aware of the location of the humanitarian aid convoy that was bombed on Monday, officials say.
HERE ARE THE TOP STORIES
Federal prosecutors filed charges against New York and New Jersey bombing suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami, including use of weapons of mass destruction.
The 28-year-old was charged Tuesday with using weapons of mass destruction, bombing a place of public use, destruction of property by means of fire/explosive, and use of a destructive device. He already faces five counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
A notebook found on Rahami contained references to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and American-born radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, according to multiple reports published Tuesday. Moshe Weiss / AP Photo
And a little extra.
The FBI confirmed investigators looked into Rahami in 2014 after comments made by his father but officials found no ties to terrorism. His father, Mohammad Rahami, told the New York Times earlier on Tuesday he went to authorities because his son was “doing really bad.”
Video released by the police department Monday showed Officer Betty Shelby, who is white, shoot Crutcher after his car had stalled in the middle of the street. Another officer fired his Taser during the confrontation.
New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker said people seem “more outraged” by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s protest of the killing of unarmed black people at the hands of police than by the killing of Crutcher. The issue of needing to change the criminal justice system was the central theme of a discussion at BuzzFeed Brews, an interview series with newsmakers which on Tuesday featured Booker and Utah Sen. Mike Lee.

Protests erupted Tuesday night in Charlotte, North Carolina, after police shot and killed a man in an apartment complex parking lot. The shooting happened after police confronted a man they say had a gun. Protesters and family members disputed that account.
In a statement to BuzzFeed News, Charlotte police identified the man as 43-year-old Keith Lamont Scott. The statement identified the officer who opened fire as Brentley Vinson. The Charlotte Observerreported that both Scott and Vinson are black.

The couple, who officially married in 2014, have six children together. Jolie is seeking full physical custody of their kids. According to TMZ, which first reported the news, Jolie was upset with Pitt’s parenting “methods.”

The split will also set the stage for divvying up a massive estate. The couple earned a reported $555 million and amassed a vast international portfolio of properties. Not all of it will be put on the chopping block since only a portion of their roughly 10 years together was as a married couple.
